Hey folks, Art here. When you’re getting ready to close on a home, your to-do list can feel longer than the moving truck.
But whether you’re buying in Tucker or elsewhere around Atlanta, there’s one step I’d like you to slow down for: sending your closing money.
A familiar name doesn’t prove an email is real
Scammers can send messages that look like they came from someone on your homebuying team. A familiar logo, signature, or detail about your purchase can make the request feel convincing.
Be especially cautious if an email announces new wiring instructions or pushes you to send money right away. A polished message isn’t proof that the account belongs to your closing team.
Make the call before sending the money
Call your closing representative at a number you verified earlier. Confirm the payment instructions directly before transferring funds. Don’t rely on a phone number supplied in the message you’re trying to check.
If the instructions change, stop and verify again. You’re not being difficult. You’re being careful with money you’ve worked hard to save.

Already sent it and something feels wrong?
Contact your bank immediately. Then alert your closing team and report the incident to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov. Recovery isn’t guaranteed, so act quickly.
